Popularizing art is the dream of Cualeunu. To be blunt, it is about making a living through art. In 2018, when we were in the middle of preparing for art school entrance exams, the average monthly income for those in the art field was a mere 720,000 KRW, ranking at the very bottom even among artists. We believed that to survive through art, we had to discover a new role for it that could truly captivate the general public.
“10sec drawing” is a content series where we sketch celebrities, characters, and objects in just ten seconds, and it was the first activity through which Cualeunu captured the public's attention. Diverse perspectives from viewers filled the comments, and the content was even reproduced by other creators. We learned that to truly communicate with the public, a willingness to momentarily set aside the solemnity of art is necessary.
For several months, the views for 10sec drawing remained low. We eventually decided to enlist in the military. As time passed and the summer of 2020 arrived, Jun-yeop, who was at the training center, received an online letter from Private First Class Hanjun Kim. “Jun-yeop, you won’t believe this, but the 10sec drawing views are at 470,000...”
